Smoking a pipe |
|
Loosen the tobacco on the flap of the pouch, place it in the pipe, flock by flock. The first flocks are loosely pressed into the pipe. The next ones are pressed down more firmly, and so on. Never fill the pipe to the rim because pipe tobacco tends to curl and swell, when lit.
Light the tobacco with a calm, circular movement of the hand, over the entire surface.

Burn the tobacco over the whole surface and then press the slightly swelling, curling tobacco down with a pipe tool. Every pipe goes out once or twice, while it is smoked, this is quite normal. Draw calmly and evenly and do not bite too hard on the stem. After smoking, put the pipe away with the stem pointing up, thus allowing the pipe to dry out.
When it has cooled down, remove the remaining ashes with a pipe tool. Never leave the ashes in place too long: a pipe must be able to breathe before it is used again. |
