The pipe manufacturer
The Royal Dutch Pipe Factory Elbert Gubbels & Zonen B.V., established in 1870, is renowned for its innovating shapes and finishes, but also for the classical tobacco pipes which show a tradition of 4 generations of craftsmanship.
The company steadily grew and for its 100th anniversary (in 1972) they were granted the predicate “Royal”, the prerogative appointed by the Queen of the Netherlands, something they are very proud of.
Pipe smokers are individualists. Men and women who know their own minds and their own preferences.
Gubbels admirably caters for that individualism with a regal collection of pipes. Its products are handcrafted with the greatest care and dedication by some 35 employees. That is why Gubbels prefers to speak of a workshop rather than a factory. And rightly so, because in spite of the sweeping technological developments which have occurred in other fields, manufacturing
tobacco pipes remains a highly skilled craft.
